I know right, it’s been a while since my last post. 8 months to be exact. My bad. I could rattle off a list of every valid reason, excuse, difficulty, time constraint, life problem etc etc, but hey, here I am now, back and ready to go again and with so many words burning within me just dying to escape through my fingertips! I find it ironic that one of my last posts was It’s Time to Flourish, where I shared my conviction of how the season of winter was over and spring had finally sprung, ready for us to step into, encounter and flourish, and how I had such an excitement within me for the breakthroughs and changes that were about to take place. Boy were there breakthroughs and unexpected changes in our life, but that’s a whole other post! So while 8 months ago I wrote about springtime springing forth and blooming all around us…here I am now (in Australia) on the cold, crisp cusp of autumn and winter. Anyone who knows me knows that I am NOT a winter person at all. I loath the cold and spend the entire season pining for summertime. My only ideal winter moment is sitting around a warm fireplace with beautifully spiced mulled wine warming my body as I look out the window into fluffy white snow, but that’s about as far as the dream goes. Oh and fashion. I do love winter fashion, I can’t wait to get my boots, scarves and coats out each year, but again, the novelty quickly wears off with the icy chill that rattles me to my bones. I’m a summer girl through and through.
However, this morning I experienced such a magical winter moment that had me worshipping God in the most glorious of ways. Spring and summer always speak to me prophetically, but this morning as I walked the frosty footpaths, all rugged up in my gloves, scarf and beanie, I turned a corner and suddenly the warmth of the glowing morning sun hit my face in a way that caused my entire being to burst into excitement and I actually laughed out loud with pure joy!!! Blasting though my headphones at that exact moment was Bethel’s ‘Shine on Us’…
“Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
You sent the shadows scattering
When through the clouds, a piercing light
And then I saw You
Shine, shine, shine like the sun
You’re waking hearts to life
You’ve only begun
Every fear, every doubt disappears
When You shine on us
We wanna see You
Shine, shine, shine like the stars
You are the first love to open my heart
Every hope, every dream comes alive
When You shine on us
When You shine on us”
Although I am no longer in the physical season of springtime, in this moment of the radiant sun suddenly shining so intensely on my frozen little body, pure joy burst forth from within me and oozed out of every part of me. It was a feeling of “I’m so happy to be where I am right now. In this exact moment. This season. What God is doing and about to do.” Despite the icy frost on the morning grass, despite the lifeless leaves falling from the skeletal trees, despite the chilled mist eerily smoking above the ponds and waterways along my path, despite the puff of white fog coming from my face with every breath I exhaled….despite the evidence of a cold, stark, lifeless winter all around me, a joy and excitement for the life giving sunshine piercing through the chilled atmosphere completely overwhelmed me.

The Bride is in a similar season. The world itself may be entering the darkest of times, the grimmest of generations, the deadliest of days, everywhere we look we see an increase in tragedy, oppression, disaster, abuse, hatred, terror and think ‘what is this world coming to?’ Although the atmosphere around us may be screaming one thing, the Son on the horizon is declaring another. His glory is arising! The harvest is coming! The greatest days of his Kingdom are within our reach! In fact, they have already begun. If we look at the circumstances and situations that the world is in and heading towards, we will only be filled with doom, gloom, defeat and fear. But if we look at what is really happening in the Spirit and in this ‘season’ we can be confident that we are entering the greatest days of His Kingdom here on earth. We ARE entering a season of springtime only ever to be triumphed by an eternal summer. The circumstances and hardships we will have to walk through will feel like the deadliest of winters as we fight for his Kingdom on the front lines of this battle, but it IS producing fruit, it IS the springtime harvest, it IS the dawning of the new day.
Although the atmosphere around us may be screaming one thing, the Son on the horizon is declaring another
Wherever you are in this world – whether the physical elements around you are right now bursting forth into a radiant summer or dwindling off into a freezing winter – you are being offered an opportunity and invitation to arise in the midst of the darkness as the Son breaks forth and shines upon you and the light within you arises and shines as the beacon of hope to all around you.
“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
Lift up your eyes and look about you:
All assemble and come to you;
your sons come from afar, and your are carried on the hip.
Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy.”
Isaiah 60:1-5 NIV
Receive the sunshine through the icy shadows.
Shine with the light that he has placed within you.
Overflow with joy, excitement and anticipation for the glorious days of his Kingdom ahead.
Arise and Shine!
